CUSTOM LABEL GUIDES: Fernqvist Guide to Custom Label Artwork

Label Artwork

IMPORTANT PREPARATION FOR BEST RESULTS

File Type

We accept the following file formats:
Adobe Illustrator .ai or .eps (PREFERRED)
Adobe Photoshop .pdf
Adobe InDesign .indd

CMYK

All custom digital labels are printed in full color — only 4 inks (CMYK). Create your artwork in CMYK, or convert to that color gamut before sending the file to us.

Resolution

Prepare the file artwork in high resolution — 300 dpi at the actual size of the printed label (100%).

Bleed

If your label has art all the way to the edge (such as colored backgrounds or borders), you need to add bleed. Bleed should be 1/16th of an inch beyond the edge of the label so that when the label is die cut there are no inkless gaps at the edges.

Fonts

If you are creating your artwork in Adobe Illustrator (which we prefer over artwork created by other software) please make sure to outline your fonts. To do this, first Select All then choose Outline Fonts from the type menu.

Outlined fonts work very well as long as there are no surprises (such as the need for last minute edits). If that should occur, a non-outlined version of the file and the fonts themselves would be necessary. It is always a wise precaution to send font, non-outlined version, and an outlined version right from the start so changes can be made to the text if necessary.
